The story of
R.V. PATHY
R.V. Pathy is a prolific Tamil author with nearly four decades of literary experience. For over 35 years, he has been writing extensively across a remarkable range of genres, making him one of the versatile voices in contemporary Tamil literature.
While children’s literature remains his foremost passion, his body of work spans spiritual writings, novels, short stories, poetry, science books, computer science publications, biographies, and general knowledge titles. His ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple and engaging manner has earned him readers from diverse age groups and backgrounds.
In addition to authoring books, he has been a regular contributor to magazines and newspapers, with more than 600 articles published till date. His Spiritual Series “Kovilum Prasadamum” in Dinamalar Aanmeegamalar magazine was published for 32 consequent Weeks. Presently a 25 Weeks Children’s series by title “Naadodiyin Sagasangal” is live in Dinamalar Siruvarmalar coming out on every Saturday.
A distinctive feature of his work is his simple and clear writing style that makes his worksaccessible to readers of all ages..
His books continue to reach readers across generations, enriching Tamil literature through their diversity of themes and enduring relevance.
The passion for Children's Literature
Although R. V. Pathy has been active in various fields of writing, children’s literature is the area he is most passionate about. He believes that today’s children are the leaders of tomorrow and that good values should be instilled in their minds. With the aim of developing their scientific knowledge and awareness, he has been creating books on a wide range of topics, including short stories, songs, plays, science books, and computer books for children. So far, he has written and published more than seventy-five books specifically for boys and girls.
Works Published in Magazines
His first children’s short story, titled “Thirundhiya Ullangal” (Reformed Hearts), was published in the Dinamani Vellimani magazine on 12 August 1988. Since then, more than one hundred children’s stories, poems, and articles written by him have been continuously published in various children’s magazines and supplements, including Dinakaran Vasantham, Dinamani Siruvarmani, Dinamani Tamilmani, Ilanthalir, Gokulam, Dinaboomi Maanavar Bhoomi, Kalaimagal, Pikkikka, Periyar Pinju, Dina Thanthi Thangamalar, Bommi, and The Hindu Tamil Thisai Mayabazar.
Research on Children's Literature
In Tamil, the first research doctoral dissertation on children’s literature was published under the title “History of Children’s Literature” by Poo Vannan. After that, not many major research books on children’s literature were published. This pushed the author to undertake the work himselves.
As a result, he published books such as “Children’s Magazines: Then and Now,” “World Tamil Children’s Literature,” “Bal Sahitya Puraskar Award Winners,” “Contemporary Children’s Writers,” “Pioneers of Children’s Literature,” “History of Puducherry Children’s Literature,” and “100 Years of Siruvarhalin Sinegitha Azha. Valliyappa 100.” Many people have expressed their amazement and appreciation to me regarding this rare work. The research articles from the books have been used by many who are conducting studies.
At present, he is preparing a 1,500-page book titled “History of Tamil Children’s Literature.” The manuscript of this book is nearing completion.
RESEARCH PAPERS
Children’s Literature Conference 2019
The Second World Tamil Children’s Literature Conference was held over three days, from May 17 to 19, 2019, at the campus of Gandhigram Rural Institute.
To mark the occasion, a special conference research volume titled “An Introduction to World Tamil Children’s Literature” was published. The volume included scholarly articles on children’s literature from various countries:
- M. S. Sreelakshmi (Singapore) wrote on “The Origin and Development of Children’s Literature in Singapore.”
- Mahadeva Iyer Jayarama Sharma, former Director of Tamil Language Education, Melbourne, Australia, contributed an article titled “A Perspective on Children’s Literature in Australia.”
- Arbert Fernando authored “Children’s Literature in America.”
- Gunanathan Arumugam contributed a research paper on “Children’s Literature in Malaysia.”
Representing India, R. V. Pathy’s research paper titled “The Growth and History of Tamil Children’s Literature in India” was published in this volume.
Dindigul Valar Tamil Research Forum
R. V. Pathy presented a research paper titled “Magazines for Children: Then and Now – A Study” in the Seventeenth International Seminar, jointly organized by the Dindigul Valar Tamil Research Forum and the World Tamil Sangam, was held on May 16–17, 2020.
Madurai Fourth Tamil Sangam International Conference
An international conference was jointly organized on March 5, 2020, by the Alagappa University Tamil Cultural Centre, Karaikudi, and the Madurai Fourth Tamil Sangam Senthamizh College Tamil Research Centre. At this conference, R. V. Pathy presented a research paper titled “Cultural Representations in Early Childhood Literature – A Study.” which was approved and selected for publication by the review committee.
Conference Lecture
The Children’s Writers and Artists Association organized a Children’s Art and Literary Seminar Series on September 5, 2020. In the inaugural seminar, conducted under the theme “The Journey of Children’s Literature,” R. V. Pathy delivered an extensive lecture on children’s literature titled “From Kavimani to Ramani.” In this presentation, he traced the evolution and development of Tamil children’s literature through the contributions of prominent writers across generations.
The Haiku World of R. V. Pathy
R. V. Pathy’s collection of Haiku poems was published in 1993 by Aparajitha Publications at a literary function held in Chengalpattu.
At a time when Haiku poetry was still in its formative stages in Tamil literature, the book was warmly received and highly appreciated by prominent writers, readers, and poets alike.
When renowned writer Sujatha was serving as Special Editor of Kumudam magazine, he selected and published eight outstanding Haiku poems from this collection in the February 20, 1994 issue. Another eight Haiku poems from the same book were selected and published in the April 15, 1994 issue of Kungumachimizh magazine.
Poet E. Parimalam included this collection in a doctoral research study on Haiku poetry. In addition, several poems from this volume have been cited and discussed in various scholarly works and research publications on Haiku literature. Following this, R. V. Pathi’s second Haiku collection Ottrai Erumbu (The Lone Ant) was released in January 12, 2014, at the Chennai Book Fair.

DISTINCTIVE WORKS - TO NAME A FEW
First Tamil- book on Tsunami.
Following the 2004 tsunami that struck Tamil Nadu, the author wrote ‘Tsunami arinthathum ariyathathum’, a comprehensive awareness book explaining the disaster and helping alleviate public fear. . This was written and published within a week’s time just after tsunami hit Tamilnadu. It became the first Tamil- book on Tsunami.
Training manuals for Anna University
Being a strong supporter of women empowerment, R. V. Pathi was invited to author the training manuals, titled ‘Hardware Maintenance and Trouble Shooting’ which was used to train women in self help groups conducted by Anna university in December 2005. It was subsequently published by Anna University
History of Tamil Children's literature

Sahitya Akademi Publications
Tamil Haiku Aayiram
In 2012, Sahitya Akademi published a haiku anthology titled *Tamil Haiku Aayiram* (A Thousand Tamil Haiku), edited by Dr. R. Mohan. For this volume, one hundred haiku books were selected from approximately two hundred haiku poetry collections published between 1984 and 2009. From these, the best one thousand haiku poems were compiled and published. The book includes ten outstanding poems from R. V. Pathi's collection titled *Haiku Poems*.
SIRUVAR NAADAGA KALANJIYAM
In 2021, Sahitya Akademi published a children's drama anthology titled SIRUVAR NAADAGA KALANJIYAM (Children's Drama Treasury), edited by Mr. Mu. Murugesh. This volume includes R. V. Pathi's play *Pattappeyar* ("Nickname"), published on pages 293 to 296.
SIRUVARGALUKKAANA ARIVIYAL KATHAIGAL
The book SIRUVARGALUKKAANA ARIVIYAL KATHAIGAL (Science Stories for Children), edited by Mr. Ko. Ma. Ko. Ilango for Sahitya Akademi, includes his science short story for children titled *ALIENUDAN ORU PAYANAM* (A Journey with an Alien). This book is scheduled to be published soon.
SIRUVAR KATHAIGAL
The book SIRUVAR KATHAIGAL (Children's Stories), edited by Mr. Bhoopathi Periyasamy for Sahitya Akademi, includes his children's story titled *MAAMARAMUM MAARIMUTHUVUM* (The Mango Tree and Marimuthu). This volume is also expected to be published soon
Serial Publications
The spiritual serial titled “MAHANGALIN VARALAARU” (The History of Great Saints), written by him for the spiritual monthly magazine Gnan Aalayam, was published continuously for 25 months.
He has written numerous articles and serial features on computers for the computer magazine Tamil Computer, which is published twice a month.
For the self-development magazine Thannambikkai, published from Coimbatore, the author has written a motivational series on life skills. The series was later compiled and published as a book titled ‘ vaarungal vellalam’ by Vijaya Publications, Coimbatore.
In 2025, he wrote a 32-week serial titled “KOYILUM PRASADAMUM” ( The Temple and the Prasadam) in Dinamalar’s spiritual supplement. This serial that became a huge hit was subsequently published as a book by the Dinamalar group.
His children’s adventure serial titled “NAADODIYIN SAGASANGAL” (The Adventures of a Nomad), published in Siruvar Malar, the children’s supplement of the popular daily newspaper Dinamalar and released every Saturday, began on 21 February 2026. The serial will be published for 25 weeks.
Storyline
First short story, titled “Colour TV,” was published in the weekly magazine Minmini dated 23 January 19.
First children’s short story, titled “Thirunthiya Ullangal ” (Reformed Hearts), was published in Dinamani Vellimani on 12 August 1988.
First article, titled “Pillaigalin Mananilaiyum, Petrorin Anugumuraiyum”( Children’s Mentality and Parents’ Approach), was published in Dinamani Vellimani on 4 August 1989.
First poem, titled “Saadhi Enum Sathan” (The Devil Called Caste), was published in the December 1989 issue.
First radio programme was broadcast on 13 August 1991 on the Chennai Radio Station as part of the programme “Ilakkiya Edu” (Literary Journal).
His first television programme, titled “Kavimalar,” was telecast live in the evening on Chennai Television on 8 March 1994.
His first spiritual article, titled “Sanjeevirayar Temple,” was published in Dinamani Vellimani on 8 January 2016.
First book, titled “Haiku Kavithaigal” (Haiku Poems), was published in 1994.
First play, titled “Kadavulin nizhal”(The Shadow of God), was telecast on the second channel of Chennai Television on 17 July 1996.
